Chicken Girl - BFI short film
Written, directed by, and starring Em Humble, Chicken Girl is a tragicomedy about a delusional young woman obsessed with chickens and golden eggs.
After an incident at a Jack and the Beanstalk panto in 2006, Chicken Girl can’t get golden eggs off her brain. With the assistance of her “better half”, Gary (Tristan Robinson), Chicken Girl is loving her chickens to death. Inspired by Grey Gardens and What We Do in the Shadows, this “college documentary” follows a deranged couple on their journey to gold.
Funded by the BFI Film Academy and Film Hub North, produced by HOME Manchester and Pili Mili Films. Chicken Girl premiered in April 2023 at HOME Theatre Manchester, won Best Comedy at Sunderland Short Film Festival, screened at Dublin International Comedy Film Festival, and will feature at Manchester Film Festival.
